Curriculum

This is our statement outlining the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) offer at Creative Explorers Day Nurseries and Pre-school.

We are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for children with diverse needs, ensuring they receive the additional support and personalised education they require. Our SEND offer for Creative Explorers reflects our dedication to providing high-quality and inclusive Early Years education. This offer outlines the ways in which we go beyond our already inclusive provision to cater to the unique strengths and needs of children with SEND, in accordance with Government requirements.

1. Inclusive Early Years Education:

We believe in a child-centred approach that celebrates diversity and embraces each child's individuality. Our inclusive environment fosters learning through hands-on experiences and play, allowing all children to engage and flourish.

2. Personalised Curriculum:

Our curriculum is tailored to address the diverse needs of individual children. By understanding their interests, play preferences, and needs, we create engaging and challenging learning experiences that help remove potential barriers to learning.

3. Early Identification and Intervention:

We prioritise early identification of additional needs and challenges, collaborating closely with parents and caregivers. Through carefully designed interventions, strategies, and targeted support, we ensure every child, including those with SEND, makes significant progress.

4. Specialist Staff:

We are staffed with qualified Early Years Educators who possess expertise in child development and learning. This enables us to provide comprehensive support and guidance to children with varying needs.

5. Full-time SENCO:

Our dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) ensures continuous support for our staff teams. Working in collaboration with external professionals, the SENCO ensures that our efforts are informed by the latest expertise in supporting children with SEND. Our nursery Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENCO) is Paula Leeming.

6. Enhanced Staffing Levels:

We maintain staffing levels above statutory requirements, allowing us to offer focused small-group interventions and individualised support when needed, ensuring each child's needs are met effectively.

7. Adaptive Learning Environments:

Both indoor and outdoor learning environments are regularly adapted and reviewed to accommodate the specific needs of individual children.

8. Holistic Needs Identification:

While we categorise children's needs broadly into communication and interaction, cognition and learning, social, emotional and mental health, and sensory and/or physical needs, we recognise that each child's needs may span across these areas. We ensure our support aligns with each child's unique profile.

9. Graduated Response Approach:

We employ a 'graduated response' approach to swiftly identify and address children's needs. Our collaborative process involves parents, caregivers, Early Years Educators, and the SENCO to create and review SEN support plans through a robust process: Assess, Plan, Do, Review.

10. External Collaborations:

We collaborate with external professionals and specialists, such as our Area SENCO from Haringey’s Inclusion Team. This collaboration ensures a comprehensive and well-rounded support system. Our Area Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) is Helen Feichtinger.

11. Targeted Interventions and Strategies:

Our interventions and strategies are personalised for each child and may include:

Communication and interaction support through visual timetables, language intervention, and communication techniques.
Cognition and learning support through one-on-one and small-group sessions, with the expertise of professionals such as educational psychologists, speech therapists, and other outreach teams.
Social, mental, and emotional health support, including teaching social skills, emotional regulation, involving families, and drawing on readily available support services.
Sensory and physical support, we provide assistance for sensory and physical needs, in collaboration with experts in these fields, and create customised environmental plans that cater to both general and specific requirements.

12. Family Partnership:

We collaborate closely with families, utilising a Team Around the Child (TAC) approach. We gather insights from parents and caregivers, valuing their perspectives and preferences.
